A Brief History of Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church August, 1989...Parker Baptist Association purchases five acres of undeveloped land in Hudson Oaks. Oct. 5, 1989...An organized meeting was held at the Southside Diner in Weatherford. Representatives from First Baptist Church, Parker Baptist Association, and five "core" families were present. Oct. 8, 1989...The first Sunday School meeting was held in the corner of the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church in Weatherford. Oct. 15, 1989...Rev. Albert Brown preached as interim pastor for Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church in the chapel of First Baptist Church. Regular services were held in the Chapel. Nov. 12-15, 1989...A tent revival was held at the future site of Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church. Local Parker County Baptist Churches and pastors assisted with the event. Jan. 7, 1990...The first church service on the property of Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church was held in a new temporary (remodeled) portable building. April 1, 1990...Terry Cosby preached in view of a call at a joint service of First Baptist and Lakeshore Drive Baptist at First Baptist Church. He was called as Pastor and handed the keys to the mission. April 8, 1990...Brother Terry Cosby preached his first Sunday sermon at Lakeshore Drive Baptist as the first full-time pastor. June 25-29, 1990...Lakeshore Drive held its first Vacation Bible School for the children of the community. Oct 7, 1990...Lakeshore Drive Baptist celebrated its first anniversary as a group with a dinner and special afternoon services. Jan. 6, 1991...Lakeshore Drive Baptist, still a mission, celebrated its first anniversary in its own building...a former portable classroom. There were 72 in Sunday School and 91 in Worship Service. April 21, 1991...Building Campaign Banquet is held at Vance Godby's for pledges for a new, permanent building. April 28, 1991...Lakeshore Drive Baptist is constituted into full church status, becoming Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church, with 137 Charter members. Sept. 1, 1991...Groundbreaking celebrations are made for the first permanent building. July 1, 1992...Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church occupies its first permanent building. Goal is set to pay off the loan (to build) in eight years…by 2000. Aug. 16, 1992...New building is dedicated, with Dr. Bill Pinson of the BGCT as the keynote speaker. Jan. 1, 1995...Steve Lyon was called as Interim Pastor after Terry Cosby resigned to go to First Baptist of Hereford, TX. Feb. 11, 1996...Dr. Tommy Hood preaches in view of a call as pastor. He is called, and accepts. March 17, 1996...Dr. Tommy Hood preaches first sermon as Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church's (second) full-time Pastor. May, 1999...A portable building is placed on the property to handle the growing Youth Group June, 2000...Building & property debt is paid off….in eight years, according to members' initial goal. All Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church property and buildings become debt free. 2000...Additional property footage along the east side of Lakeshore Drive is purchased at below market price for possible future parking space. 2000...A second portable building is placed to house the still growing young people's groups. 2000...Acreage just west of the present property is purchased for the future expansion of the present Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church building. March 18, 2001...Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church celebrates Dr. Tommy Hood's fifth anniversary as pastor. March, 2001...Serious meetings are being held, and plans progressing for the second phase of building construction at Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church. April 29, 2001...Dinner on the grounds celebration for ten years as a church, with Terry Cosby (first pastor) as guest speaker during Morning Services. October, 2001...Dinner is held for pledges for the new building program entitled "Building His Family" to more than double present floor space. One million, three-hundred thousand dollars was the estimated building price. (Actual cost was closer to $1.6 million.) December, 2001...First plans and renderings for the building expansion are presented to the church. The expansion will include classrooms, a library, staff offices, gym and fellowship hall and full service kitchen.January, 2002...A new 30’ X 50’ permanent building is completed and dedicated for use as the Youth Annex. April, 2002...Of the five core families who started Lakeshore Drive Baptist, only Clay & Julia Price are still active at LDBC. Their dedication is appreciated through a special recognition in the worship service naming Clay a "deacon emeritus." Summer, 2002...preliminary electrical work such as rerouting poles, etc., is done in preparation for new building construction. October 27, 2002...Ground breaking and staking off of the new building site is preceded by Dinner on the Grounds. May 20, 2003...Pouring of the concrete foundation for the new building begins. Thirty-two trucks are required for the ground floor. February 15, 2004...After many delays and revisions, new education building is dedicated. October 2, 2005...Second morning
Worship Service is added to accommodate growing attendance in worship.
