Emerald Ministry (Over 55)
Our mature adults show Christian love and concern for one
another through various internal programs and ministries. Fellowship is a key
factor in maintaining a well-rounded understanding of one another's needs. Our
senior adults ministry is designed to encourage, inspire and engage those who
are in the 55 and over age group.
The name is just that, "Over 55." We hesitate to call the group Seniors or
Senior Citizens because there are so many activities and fellowships designed to
keep one young and mobile going on throughout each month and the year. Parties,
dinners, fellowships, get-togethers, hymn sings, trips and even a monthly night
of dinner and dominoes, offer a wide variety of opportunities for fun and
fellowship. The third Friday of each month, there is a dinner and dominoes time,
called "Emerald Fellowship," for any interested in fun and a challenge. Short
day trips occasionally give members and friends of the group a chance to just
get away for a few hours.
The primary instrument of service and ministry is of course the Sunday School.
There are three classes, and some 70-80 members meeting on any given Sunday
morning for Bible Study. Classes begin at 9:30 AM. Whether you prefer lecture
style, a discussion format, or a combination of both, one class is sure to suit
you. Some prefer to visit all three classes before making a decision, or you may
just choose one. All three
classes are led by qualified, well educated, dedicated teachers...and each
offers not only a chance to learn, but a challenge to serve.
A Senior Choir comprising of about 30 regular members has been formed from this
group to sing for the church, other churches and hospitals and nursing homes
around the area. This choir, "The Joyful Singers," is often in demand in malls
and shopping centers during holiday seasons.
The ladies meet twice monthly on the first and third Thursday at 9:30 am for "Granny Squares," at which time they get
together to fellowship and sew items for local Nursing Homes or hospitals and
shut-ins.
Men meet Wednesday mornings at a local restaurant for an early
breakfast and prayer time. These men call them the "Romeos". (Retired Old Men
Eating Out)
In addition to the opportunities and activities mentioned here, many impromptu
meetings and outings occur that help to increase fellowship and fun with one
another in the Lord. Socials are held in individual homes "as the Spirit moves."
Ministry or service to class members, families, or guests is taken care of as
the need arises. A special sub-group, "The Helping Hands" has been formed to
help those 55 and over with minor home and automotive problems.
All activities are open to any member or guest, and all are encouraged to attend
and participate as they can, or desire. The Emerald Ministry meets to be ministered
to; then seeks to go out and minister to others...whether in the class, in the
church, or in world.
